"Meat" Your Farmer 2024

Are you looking to purchase bulk meat from a local farmer, but the whole process seems daunting or confusing? Do you want to connect with local farmers to learn more about what they do and why they do it? Would you like to see and taste how local meats can be incorporated into our state’s local school lunch programs? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this event is for you!

You are invited to join us for our upcoming “Meat” Your Farmer event at the Powerhouse on the Roycroft Campus (39 S. Grove St., East Aurora, NY) on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The event will be split into two parts. From 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, there will be a formal program that will share...

  • How to find a local farm to purchase from

  • How to purchase bulk meats and what to expect

  • What cuts come as part of a bulk meat purchase

From 6:00pm – 8:00pm, we will move into tasting samples of over 10 different NYS school lunch menu items made with meat donated by our local farming community. You will have the opportunity to talk with local farms and purchase their products. All are welcome to join one or both parts of the event. Tasting dishes will feature local beef, pork, turkey, chicken, and eggs, and recipe cards will be made available so that you can try making your favorite dishes at home!

The event is offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of Cornell Cooperative Extension, the MeatSuite Mini Grant Program, Harvest NY, the NY Beef Producers, and the NY Pork Producers. RSVPs are not required but are appreciated as they will help us plan how many samples to make. You can RSVP to Amy Barkley at 716-640-0844 or amb544 [at] cornell.edu or Becky O’Connor at 845-706-0293 or rao84 [at] cornell.edu. We hope to see you there!
