Game of Logging Chainsaw Safety Level 1 & Level 2

Chainsaws are one power tool people can use to manage vegetation. They are efficient and productive and used in different industries. They are common items found in the garage or sheds of homeowners. They are dangerous if not used correctly. All chainsaw users are encouraged to properly maintain their equipment and learn professional standards to reduce the risk for injury when using chainsaws.

Cattaraugus County Cornell Cooperative Extension in partnership with Bill Lindloff's ProCuts are hosting a Chainsaw Safety and Operation: Game of Logging Level 1 Certification training on Wednesday, May 28th and Level 2 Certification on Thursday, May 29th 7:30am to sunset at the Peirce Whittney Forest, Machias (Cattaraugus County) NY. This program will be held outside so participants are encouraged to dress properly for the weather. Participants are required to bring a chainsaw along with sharpening and maintenance tools. Also required is personal protective equipment (PPE) including a hard hat, chainsaw protective chaps, and eye protection that satisfies the ANSI Z87.1 standard. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch to eat in the field during the training, and to bring a DBH (diameter breast height) measuring tape, if available. Participants will earn a Game of Logging Level 1 certificate after completing the entire day of training.

This training is open to anyone that wants to learn about chainsaw safety and maintenance. It will focus on introducing the participant to open face felling and the development of techniques to safely use it. Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell, and understanding hinge wood strength.

Participants will earn a Game of Logging Level 1 certificate after completing the entire day of training; certificates will be mailed out approximately 3-5 weeks after the training event.

Fee

The program fee is $170.00 per participant and registration is required. Space is limited to 10 people. Registration will be canceled if payment is not received within 3 days.
