Snow Brook Farms

Snow Brook Organic Farm is owned and operated by Dan Brown.

Dan’s father bought the dairy farm in 1948 after returning from WWII. Dan grew up on the 202 acre farm and, when his father stopped farming in 1991 and sold the dairy cows, Dan grew crops on the farm. In 1997, he built a new facility and bought a herd of dairy cows.  Snow Brook currently has a herd consisting of 64 adult cows with another 48 young stock. In addition to his farm, he uses his brother’s farm that is 60 acres and rents another 200 acres.  In 2009, Snow Brook Organic Farm was certified organic by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY). Organic Certification is difficult to achieve and takes almost every aspect of farming into consideration, from feed to bedding to identification practices.  Another unique aspect at Snow Brook is the computerized robotic milker that was installed in December of 2011. This process has increased production and allowed Snow Brook to get a higher price for its milk.

They also produce Maple Syrup.  They are open to visitors who call and make an appointment, with displays and information given about their practices and sustainable methods.
