WNY Fresh Market Vegetable Grower Meeting February 9th

The CCE Cornell Vegetable Program is hosting Fresh Market Vegetable Meetings in three locations in western New York. The meetings will take place on February 9, February 15, and March 7, 2017 and will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension offices in Ellicottville, East Aurora, and Newark, respectively.

The program will include research updates and a cover crops and soil health workshop. Three Cornell Vegetable Program specialists, Darcy Telenko, Robert Hadad, and Judson Reid, will give presentations on their research and Extension programs. Research updates will include information on:

  • Wildlife management
  • High tunnel and nutrient management
  • Vegetable disease and weed management including the new iPiPE program for   vegetables The cost to attend is $20 for Cornell Vegetable Program enrollees and $25 for all others and includes lunch. DEC credits (1A, 10, 23) and CCA credits are available at each meeting, but you must attend the entire meeting for credit.
  • Updates on the Food Safety Modernization Act and what you need to do for your farm
  • Regional program updates from various CCE staff

The afternoon will consist of a Cover Crop and Soil Health Workshop covering approaches to Phytophthora management, biofumigants, herbicide rotation restrictions, and climate smart farming tools. Dr. Mary Hausbeck from Michigan State will be joining the workshop on February 15 in East Aurora to discuss her work on Phytophthora management.
