During Staff Appreciation Week, staff at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital enjoyed a fun and healthy wellness activity made possible through a partnership with Erie 1 BOCES- Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC) and Cornell Cooperative Extension-Cattaraugus County.
CHSC and CCE Cattaraugus brought the popular blender bike to the event, giving staff members the opportunity to pedal their way to fresh fruit smoothies. Participants powered the blender simply by riding the bike, creating delicious and nutritious smoothies while adding an element of fun and physical activity to the celebration.
Erin Schwab-George, BCH Development and Community Relations Coordinator stated that “the blender bike was a huge hit and quickly became a highlight of Staff Appreciation Week, drawing enthusiastic participation and plenty of smiles from hospital staff throughout the event.” Employees enjoyed choosing healthy ingredients, blending their own smoothies, and taking a few moments to relax and connect with coworkers.
Creating Healthy Schools and Communities and Cornell Cooperative Extension-Cattaraugus work together to promote healthy lifestyles, nutrition education, and wellness opportunities throughout the region. Events like this help encourage healthy habits while building positive community connections.
“We were excited to partner with Bertrand Chaffee Hospital to bring this interactive wellness activity to staff appreciation events,” said Kim Oudemool, from CHSC and CCE Cattaraugus. “The blender bike is always a great way to engage people in healthy choices while having fun.”
The success of the event demonstrated how simple wellness activities can create excitement, encourage healthy living, and show appreciation for the hardworking staff who care for the community every day.
